THREE DAY BASAVA UTSAV CULTURAL EVENT CONCLUDED
The three day first Basav Utsav 2009 which depicts life and teachings of 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara and Sharana culture concluded here at Basavakalyan town of the district on Monday.
Presiding over the concluding day function, Basavakalyan MLA Basavaraj Patil Atoor said, cultural event like Basava Utsav will be held with grandeur in coming years and expressed gratitude for the cooperation received from all quarters of society to make the event successful.
Speaking on the occasion Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta said, the maiden Basav Utsav is a grand success this has been possible due to cooperation extended by the people from all walks of life including religious seers, officials, and elected representatives. And expressed in future this event would be observed with much splendor and hoped that this event would get recognition on national level.
Horticulture University Registrar Dr S B Dhandin said, Basavanna has observed work is worship in his teachings, and noted work shouldn’t become commercial activity. One’s work contains dedication, commitment, sincerity and accomplished with utmost devotion, besides such acts ensure that it shouldn’t pose any problems for none.
Cultural artist’s participated in a three day event felicitated by Mr Gupta. Basava Yoga Kendra’s Beldal Sharanaru, Lalit Kala Academy Chairman J S Khanderao, Basava Seva Pratishtan Akka Annapurna, Hulsoor Math Shivanand Swamiji, and other invited dignitaries were present.
The three day event comprises of discussions and meets on the principles and teachings of century social reformer Basaveshwara and Sharanara culture, the highlight of cultural event was programmes presented by noted artists of international fame, including bhajan singer Anoop Jalota, Carnatic Vocalist Dr Balmuralikrishna and cultural troupe from Nirantara foundation Mysore added the gleam to the event.

BASAVA UTSAV INAUGURATED
Governor of Punjab Sri Shivraj Patil inaugurated the first spiritual and socio-cultural extravaganza, “Basava Utsav”, at Basavaklayan on Saturday at 6:00 PM.
Speaking after lighting the lamp to mark the opening of the three-day utsav, along with Chief Minister Dr. B.S. Yeddyurappa, the former Chief Minister & Member of Parliament N. Dharam Singh and other leaders, Sri Shivaraj Patil paid tribute to the State Government and the district administration for organising the event to recreate the golden days of the 12th Century when Basaveshwara launched one of the greatest social reformist movements in the country.
Sri Shivaraj Patil recalled the time he spent in Basavakalyan. “I was born in a village which was part of Bidar before the reorganisation of States and I have visited this historic town several times. What bothered me then was the way the historic monuments were neglected.” Mr. Patil said that this time he was pleasantly surprised by the upkeep and maintenance of the monuments in the town. “I congratulate the State Government and the district administration for reviving the glory of Basavakalyan.”
Mr. B.S. Yeddyurappa, who inaugurated the seminars on philosophy and teachings of Basaveshwara, said that the State Government proposed to make Basavakalyan one of the most important cultural and spiritual centres of the country.
Stressing the importance of holding such utsavs in all districts, Mr. Yeddyurappa said such utsavs would help strengthen cultural and spiritual bonds among people.
Sri N. Dharam Singh, Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik Belamagi, Shivamurthy Murugarajendra Sharanaru of Brihanmath, Chitradurga, and Jagadguru Basavajaya Mrutanjaya Mahaswamigalu of Kudalasangama spoke on the occasion.

The three-day Basava Utsav scheduled to be held at Basavakalyan will be inaugurated by Governor of Punjab Shivraj Patil on March 27.
Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik Belamagi, who held a meeting to review arrangements made for the utsav here on Wednesday, said Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa would inaugurate the special sessions on all three days.
Mr. Belamagi said heads of various maths would take part in the inaugural function.
